Purpose

The purpose of this task is to work productively with a peer and reinforce your learning from last week about these concepts when using Sketch to create app prototypes:

  • use of stacks to show repeated elements
  • links between frames
  • scrolling within frames
  • overlays
  • layer visibility
  • use of symbols

TIP

You can have several documents open in Sketch at a time. Open the previous documents you worked within, and use the instructions you followed as a reference if needed, while working on this task.

Getting started

When prototyping apps for iOS, we can use a copy of this document to get started – it contains instances of all of the common UI elements for the iOS platform:

When you are ready to start making your prototype, navigate to this page within the document:

You can browse available components and add symbols by pressing this button at the top-left of the interface:

… or by pressing Control-2 on your keyboard, like this:

Before you get too far, be sure to save your prototype to your workspace within Sketch:

Objective

Working with your partner, in class, over the next day or two, your goal is to reproduce this interface in Sketch:

Additional information

The purpose of this task is not to make you type a lot of information manually, so, here is all of the data for the books shown in this prototype – note that you don’t have to put every book into the prototype – just enough to have content that allows you to show an interface scrolling:
